TROY, Ala. — In the Sun Belt, last Saturday’s matchup in Troy between the Appalachian State Mountaineers and Trojans was a colossal showdown as Troy took the victory at the final minute of the game to win 28-24.

Troy quarterback Brandon Silvers, a former Gulf Shores High Dolphin threw for 229 yards on 21 completions (35 attempts) and one touchdown.

It was on the ground where the Trojans scored most of their points. Silvers ran for a 51-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Jordan Chunn ran for 129 yards on 31 carries and two touchdowns.

The defense for the Trojans was very active against the tough offensive line of Appalachian State. The Troy defense accounted for 8 tackles for loss with five of the players accounting for one or more. Baron Poole accounted for 3 total tackles (2 solo), 1 sack and 2 tackles for loss.

All season long, the Trojans have been playing outstanding football. This is because they have so many different playmakers throughout the field on both sides of the ball. Troy is 27th in the nation in defensive efficiency, 23rd in special team’s efficiency and 49th in overall team efficiency. The Trojans are 28th in the nation in passing yards per game (277.2 yards) and 19th in points per game scored (38.1 points).

On Sunday, Troy was ranked 25th in the AP Poll, which is the first time ever in their program’s history. They are also the first ever Sun Belt conference team to be ranked in an official nationally recognized poll. The Trojans (8-1, 5-0 in conference play) will have to play three more conference games including the co-leader of the Sun Belt right now in the Arkansas State Red Wolves (5-4, 5-0 in conference play) this next Thursday.
