Voluntary evacuation recommended on Causeway

SPANISH FORT -- The city of Spanish Fort recommended a voluntary evacuation of flood-prone areas of the city, including the Causeway, Pineda Island and Blakeley River.

The Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency recommended voluntary evacuation Zones 1 and 2. Because portions of Zone 3, which includes the Causeway, Pineda Island and Blakeley River Road in Spanish Fort are subject to flooding, the City Council recommended Monday that residents in those areas consider a voluntary evacuation. City officials also directed residents to follow the directions of Gov. Kay Ivey and Emergency Management Agency officials if a mandatory evacuation is ordered.

Anyone who evacuates and needs to seek shelter should contact the Baldwin County Emergency Agency for shelter availability at 251-972-6807.
