Vote ‘Yes’ on one mill property tax renewal

Posted

Baldwin County voters will head to the polls Tuesday to vote on two important issues.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that there is an election to fill the unexpired Senate term for Sen. Jeff Sessions, where Democrat Doug Jones faces Republican Roy Moore.

Gulf Coast Media has not and will not make and endorsement in this race, following a policy that we do not endorse candidates that has been in place here for many years.

However, we do wholeheartedly endorse a “Yes” vote on renewing the one mill property tax that will share ballot space on Tuesday.

This renewal simply extends an existing property tax that residents here are already paying.

It is not a new tax. It will not mean any additional taxes.

It is just continuing a tax that will help keep funding for our schools at their current level.

$4 million per year in school funding is at stake in this choice.

That’s money that can and will be used to help pay teachers, buy supplies, build buildings and improve the quality of education for children across Baldwin County.

While this county may be somewhat split on providing additional money to our schools, surely we can all agree that we shouldn’t be taking away money from our children’s education.

Good schools are the backbone on which a county’s future is built.

A great education means a more educated workforce, the ability to recruit better jobs, an improved economy and a higher quality of life for the entire county.

Continuing this investment in our future is the only logical solution and is definitely the right call.

So, no matter who you vote for in the Senate race, vote “Yes” on the tax renewal to help keep building a better, brighter Baldwin County.
