Walter Lee (W.L.) "Dub"Hanson Jr., age 88, a native of Walkerville, Arkansas and a resident of Daphne, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017.

WL was born Jan. 17, 1929. He attended Springhill High School (Louisiana) and Magnolia A&M in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was a member of the basketball team in college.

He served in the U.S. Air Force (1953-1957). He worked over 40 years for International Paper Co.

W.L. was a member of the American Legion Post 166. He was an avid golfer and past member of the Mississippi Senior Golf Association and Lake Forest Country Club. He was a club champion at Springhill Country Club.

He was a longtime member of the Krewe of Etruscans and the Knights of Ecor Rouge.

W.L. was well known to his doctors, neighbors and friends as the Cookie Man for his gifts of homemade cookies.

He was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Pearl Hanson; and a son, Timothy L. Hanson.

W.L. "Dub" is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy G. Hanson; son, Steven G. (Darla) Hanson; daughter-in-law, Beverly Hanson; grandchildren, Dr. Patrick Hanson, Meaghan Hanson, Graham Hanson, Madison Hanson; brother, Rodney (Doris) Hanson; sister, Faye Dennington; numerous other relatives and friends.

A celebration of W.L.'s life will be held Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. time of service.

Interment will follow in Jubilee Memorial Gardens in Daphne.
