The cookies have arrived! Trucks began delivering to both troops in Foley and troops in Fairhope on Jan. 11 and 12, as Girl Scouts everywhere begin preparing to get out and sell some cookies.

This year sees the return of fan favorites and classics, including: S’mores, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Trefoils, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Lemonades, Savannah Smiles, Thanks-A-Lot, Toffee-tastic, Trios, and what is arguably the top selling Girl Scout cookie in the nation, Thin Mints.

At the Foley drop-off location alone, 570 cases of cookies were delivered to the waiting girls, who jumped right in with the adults and helped to unload and stack the cookies by flavor. Afterwards they assisted in the counting and dividing, ready to get out and sell some cookies to waiting fans.

Aside from the long-awaited cookies, there’s another factor to consider when buying cookies from a Girl Scout troop. All the money stays local, and goes towards assisting the troops to provide new adventures, learning opportunities, and skill building exercises. The money raised from selling the cookies can go towards a troop trip to an exciting location, help the girls go to camp, or according to the official website, provide “the chance to try something new … every experience helps them find the G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) ™ within to do amazing things for herself and for her community.”

While selling cookies, the girls are also gaining skills, the “5 Skills,” in fact: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.

So to purchase cookies from local troops is not only to go home with some delicious treats, but it’s also helping young girls gain life skills for the future, confidence in conquering their goals, and raising money for local troops to put towards even more team building experiences.

You can find the locations where local Girl Scout troops will be setting up and selling cookies on their website at www.GirlScouts.org. Cookies sell fast, so don’t miss your chance to purchase some during the 2018 cookie selling season!
