William “Bill” Young Vaughan Jr.

William "Bill" Young Vaughan Jr. passed peacefully on Aug. 15, 2018 after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life.

He was born in Ward, Alabama, but lived many years in Opp, Alabama until the family moved to Uniontown, Alabama after his graduation from high school.

Bill served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War era. During this time he met his beloved wife of 59 years, Otila Cordova Vaughan, who preceded him in death in 2015.

After an honorable discharge, he and Tila moved to east Alabama so he could enroll in Auburn Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). He graduated from the School of Pharmacy in 1957 and practiced pharmacy until his retirement.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Eugenia and William Y. Vaughan Sr.; and sister, Frances (James) Woodfin.

He is survived by two sisters, Susan (Mike) Jennings and Sara (Tom) Duncan. He is also survived by three children and their spouses, Frances (Preston) Foy, William (Beth) Vaughan III and Maria (Buddy) Vines; seven grandchildren, Preston, Ben, Katie, William, Sarahanne, Chelsea Lee and Tila; four great-grandchildren, Lucas, Nathaniel, Eli and Lola; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private family celebration of his wonderful life will be held at a later time.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
