Baldwin EMC receives fantastic response to annual Power of Giving Drive

SUMMERDALE, Alabama — Baldwin EMC hosted its 12th annual Power of Giving drive on Thursday, Nov. 30, and the event’s organizers are calling it a huge success.

LifeSouth Community Blood Center was on site early Thursday morning and collected a total of 90 units of blood by the end of the day. Included in those donations were seven double red donations, two plasma donations, and six platelet donations. Additionally, 1,518 pounds of non-perishable food were collected and donated to a local food bank for families in need.

In its second year, the children’s coat drive portion of the campaign resulted in the collection of more than 450 coats and jackets, which will be distributed to needy children in the community through Catholic Social Services and Ecumenical Ministries.

Mark Ingram, Baldwin EMC’s vice president of corporate services and public relations, says the success of the Power of Giving drive is one of the most significant ways Baldwin EMC shows its commitment to the community, but without donors, it would not have been successful.

“Our theme this year had a superhero spin because we wanted to remind everyone that making a blood donation can save up to three lives,” Ingram said. “By our counts, we had 90 superheroes show up to save the lives of up to 270 people in our very own community. The Power of Giving is exactly that – whether the donation be blood, food or a warm coat, each contribution will help change a life in a positive way. That selfless generosity makes heroes out of all of our donors.”

Baldwin EMC is a member-owned electric cooperative serving more than 74,000 accounts in Baldwin and Monroe Counties in southwest Alabama, including Alabama’s Gulf Coast. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
