COVID-19 Case confirmed in Alabama

The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed one person has tested positive in Montgomery for the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

Officials said the patient had traveled out of state to a region where the virus was active and that they had returned home and self-isolated after feeling ill.

Starting March 13, ADPH will be providing weekly updates on the total numbers tested for COVID-19 by the Alabama State Lab, the Bureau of Clinical Laboratories (BCL). Between March 6 and March 12, the Lab tested 12 individuals.

Prior to March 5, Alabama was, as were most states, sending testing for COVID-19 to the CDC. Less than 10 persons needed to be tested based upon clinical and epidemiological information during that period. As of March 12, none were positive.

ADPH said the numbers will change as the State Lab works daily to provide appropriate testing to persons who meet ADPH's testing criteria.
