Foley Kiwanis set May 15 for Motorcycle Poker Run

Posted

FOLEY - Twice now inclement weather has forced the Foley Kiwanis Club to reschedule its first-ever Poker Run. The event was originally scheduled for October 2020 and was forced to reschedule due to damages caused by Hurricane Sally. Then the reschedule date of April 17 was rescheduled again due to the forecast of thunderstorms throughout the weekend.

The third time’s the charm, and the club members refuse to be deterred. The new date for the Motorcycle Poker Run is Saturday, May 15. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at Heritage Park in Foley, with the motorcycle run starting at 10 for club and group riders, non-group riders beginning at 10:30.

There will be a total of five stops during the ride, including beginning and ending at Heritage Park. Other stop locations will be disclosed at the time of check in at the park. One card will be presented at each stop location. Riders must check in at each designated stop to be eligible to win prizes. Riders must return to stop five at Heritage Park by 3 p.m., when awards and prizes will be given out. Cash money will be given to the best three hands, $300, $200 and $100 respectively. Entry fees for the event are as follows: $20 for licensed bikers, $10 for passengers. Extra hands and card exchanges can be purchased at the event. Raffle tickets will be available to purchase onsite, $2 each or three for $5.

All proceeds and donations will be used to support the youth of the Foley community, going towards the Special Olympics, the Kiwanis Christmas Parade, and community support for food banks and ministries. The Foley Kiwanis Club's goals include the Poker Run providing enough funding to bring Kiwanis Programs and Kid Clubs into area schools and creating an adult Actson Club for those with special needs and handicaps. The Foley Kiwanis Club meets each Tuesday at noon at Vallarta Mexican Restaurant, 1145 South McKenzie Street. The club is currently recruiting new members. Follow the club on Facebook to keep up with event announcements.
