Friends of the Fairhope Library to hold membership drive

Friends of the Fairhope Public Library wants to add new people to its membership roster.

The non-profit organization will hold a special drive to boost memberships during the week of June 12 -17 in the library’s lobby.

Prospective members are encouraged to sign up and be entered in a drawing for several prizes.

Current members can come by the membership drive table during these dates in June to place their name in a drawing for current members. Prizes include a coupon book for a free book from the bookstore each month for a year, a Family Fun basket (DVD, popcorn, soda, board game, cards) and a voucher for a free 2018 Chocolate and Champagne ticket.

Officially founded in 1959, Friends became a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in 1972 and has evolved into a dedicated group of citizens determined to make a difference in our community through their support of the Library.

The Friends of the Fairhope Public Library exists to support the operation of the award-winning Fairhope Library particularly in maintaining, expanding, and preserving the library’s programs, collections, technology and special events. By fundraising and volunteering they help support many programs and materials for the library including the youth summer reading program, weekly book reviews, new technology, used bookstore, book sales and other special events and materials.

“Over 160,000 people frequented the library in 2016,” Friends Director Randal Wright said. “We would love to see every one of them become a Friend, but we are asking you to consider the important part the library plays in your life and join this vital organization.”

Memberships begin at $15 for an individual and $25 for a family.

“Support of the Friends brings the satisfaction of helping our wonderful library,” Wright said. “As a Friend, you help ensure that the Library will remain one of Fairhope’s strongest assets—a vitual backbone of community life.”
