Everyone knows about giving an apple to the teacher. Beginning Sept. 1, Greer’s Market is encouraging their customers to give to Apples for the Students.

All locations of Greer’s Markets are celebrating A Decade of Giving with this the 10th year of its Apples for the Students program. Greer's has supplied close to $600,000 in free awards to community schools in its trade areas over the past nine years.

“The well-being of all of our customers and associates and their families is an important part of our Greer’s team vision, ‘To bring added joy, well-being and value to people’s lives,’” said Greer’s Vice President/Marketing Jan Greer Endfinger. “The Apples Program enables us to not only bring ‘joy’ to the students and teachers receiving awards, but to put the ‘well-being and value’ portions of our vision into action in each and every community we serve.”

Apples for the Students has worked with grocery stores for over 25 years to provide more than $250 million worth of free computers, equipment, programs and educational tools to local schools. Greer’s Apples for the Students Program offers all schools (more than 400) in their 30 store trade areas in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida the opportunity to earn free educational equipment and supplies.

It’s easy to participate. Local schools – public, private, parochial, day care, head start, church schools - are encouraged to activate if a previous participant or sign up as a new school participant today and start earning free equipment and supplies.

“Education, next to the health and safety of our children, is the number one concern of parents today,” Endfinger said. “We, at Greer’s, care about the education and well-being of our children and youth and the dedicated teachers and administrators.

“At Greer’s, we are parents and grandparents, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, and we are concerned about educating our children and youth. Many of our part-time associates are high school and college students working to fund their educational goals. We are concerned that budgets continue to be cut forcing many teachers and administrators out of their chosen profession. We are also concerned when we hear that so many teachers are purchasing supplies out of their own pockets.”

Greer’s Apples for the Students Program runs 30 weeks beginning Sept. 1, ending on March 16, 2019. To participate, Schools must activate/register each year. To register, go to aftsgreers.com or call 800-999-7750. Check with your school to be sure it is active for this year.

Apples for Students E-Kits were emailed to principals and school coordinators at over 400 schools in the Greer's trade areas. Help spread the word to your family and friends about Greer's Apples for Students Program and encourage them to “Shop, Save and Support Local Schools.”

Schools will take all the Greer's receipts you accumulate and give to them and send them off to Apple Headquarters for deposit into their school account. The total receipt credits at the end of the year can be redeemed for free items in the Awards Catalog or the school can make a special request. The Award Catalog is filled with hundreds of free educational equipment and supplies featuring the latest in technology, the best products and the best brands.

Greer’s offers bonus opportunities each year. Schools earn 5,000 bonus credits is they activate their account by Oct. 1. Schools decorating a collection box and emailing picture to Apple headquarters can earn 10,000 bonus credits and schools depositing $75,000 in receipt credits by Nov. 30, earn 10,000 more credits.

“Unlike traditional fundraisers, Apples for the Students is easy and fun,” Endfinger said. “Since many of your students’ families currently shop at our stores, your school already has a strong base of support for this program. Best of all, everyone in your community can take part. It’s not limited to your school’s students, administration and faculty.”

During the 2017-2018 school year, local schools participated and collected 6,060,200 points in receipt totals. Congratulations to East Central Schools in Hurley, Mississippi. They collected over $1,000,000 earning them $10,000 in free awards this year. The Top Apple School for 2017-18 and the previous four years was Jay Elementary School in Jay, Florida.

“We know of no better way to serve the community than by enhancing the educational and developmental environment of our children,” Endfinger said. “We look forward to a record breaking year helping teachers and schools earn the tools they need to serve up an incredible year for the children.”
