About 250 gallons of untreated wastes spilled in Fairhope following three inches of rain, Baldwin County Health Department officials said Tuesday.

According to a report received from Fairhope Utilities, a manhole overflowed following heavy rains. The overflow resulted in sewage released into a ditch which leads to Tatumville Gully. The health department urges residents to exercise caution if using these water bodies for recreational purposes. Also, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught near by and wash hands after handling fish or seafood.
