Updates on Baldwin athletes competing at the next level

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Mary Katherine Stewart has made an impact as a freshman swimmer for Birmingham-Southern College.
The Daphne High School graduate has placed in individual and relay events during the first half of the schedule. She holds the team's fastest times this season in the 100-yard butterfly; 50 and 100 backstroke, which were posted during relays; and 200 backstroke.
Stewart swam the lead leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay against Emory in her debut. At the next meet, she won the 200 backstroke and was in the first leg of the second-place 400 medley relay.
She was especially productive at the Wabash College Invitational, placing second in the 200 backstroke in a season-best time. Stewart swam the second leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay and the first leg of the winning 800 freestyle relay. She was in the third leg of the second-place 200 freestyle relay.

Football
Southeastern University freshman running back Bryan Bell was named the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Sun Division offensive player of the year and was cited on the all-conference division first team. The Fairhope High product rushed for 1,060 yards with seven touchdowns. He caught 16 passes, including one score, for 154 yards.
Faulkner University senior Kylan Cotton was named to the all-MSC Sun Division second team. Out of Spanish Fort High, the defensive back had 49 tackles, second on the squad, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Men's basketball
Graduate student Cameron Gottfried started the first eight games for California State University, Northridge. The guard, who played one year for Gulf Shores High, had 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists against Pepperdine.
Senior Quinn Atkinson had a season-high 21 points to lead Berry College during a loss to LaGrange. The former Toro had three rebounds and two assists.
Gadsden State Community College freshman Kendrick Buskey had season highs of 13 points, seven assists and four rebounds against Talladega. He played for Daphne.

Men's swimming
Fairhope graduate Zach Bondurant finished seventh in the 400 individual medley at The College of New Jersey Invitational. The Arcadia University (Pa.) junior posted a season-best time. He was 14th in the 200 back stroke in another season-best effort.
