ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Members of the Baldwin County Farmers Federation Women’s Program qualified for state competitions in two separate contests held Monday, March 5 at the Baldwin County Farmers Federation Building, located behind Alfa Insurance in Robertsdale.

Three ladies competed for prizes in the Heritage Cooking Contest which featured appetizers made with bacon. Diane Sopr, placed first with her bacon tomato jam. Barbara Krob was second and Faye Fiddler finished third, both with variations of bacon wraps.

Sopr qualified to compete in state competition which will be held Sept. 6 at the Alfa building in Montgomery. Should Sopr not be able to attend, Krob would then represent Baldwin County in the state competition, followed by Fiddler.

Four ladies also competed in four separate sewing competitions on Monday.

Pam Madden took home the prize for hand-stitched cotton quilt; Kathy Byrd was first in the machine stitched baby quilt category with Barbara Krob second, while Krob finished first in the Christmas tree skirt category. Bonnie Savell topped the machine stitched cotton quilt category with Krob second and Pam Madden third.

Sewing contest winners in each category will compete during the Alabama Commodities Conference to be held Aug. 2-5 in Birmingham.

Both the Heritage Cooking Competition and sewing competitions carried a cash prize of $75 per category for first place; with $50 for second and $25 for third.

“It is the purpose of the Baldwin County Farmer’s Federation Women’s Program to promote agriculture and agriculture-related products in Baldwin County,” said Jennifer Salac, chairman of the Baldwin County Farmer’s Federation members committee. “We appreciate the continued support of local area residents and hope to be able to have more participation in events like this in the future.”
