BAY MINETTE – Orange Beach High School Principal Erika McCoy has resigned from the Baldwin County Public School System one month after being placed on paid administrative leave.

The Baldwin County Board of Education voted Thursday, Feb. 25, to approve McCoy’s resignation. The board voted without comment on an unpublished list of resignations and McCoy’s name was not released until after the meeting.

According to the agenda, McCoy’s resignation will go into effect on Aug. 31.

On Monday, the school system released a statement from Superintendent Eddie Tyler saying that the board had received a request for a leave of absence and a letter of resignation from McCoy and the board has accepted it.

Tyler has named Robbie Smith interim principal of Orange Beach Middle/High School. Wes Pouncey will continue to serve as the school’s assistant principal, the statement said.

As of Monday, Smith was listed as the interim principal at Orange Beach High School on the school website.
