Rosinton UMC hosts Wave of Light

ROSINTON, Alabama — Rosinton United Methodist Church will host Pregnancy and Infant Loss International Wave of Light Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the Family Life Center, 26011 Baldwin Beach Express, Robertsdale.

The service will begin at 6:45 p.m. with light refreshments. Candle lighting will begin promptly at 7 p.m. and the service will end around 7:15.

The names of babies lost will be read during the candle lighting. If you would like to contribute a name, please send an e-mail to rosintonumc@gmail.com.

The global observance is part of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, which is a day of remembrance for pregnancy loss and infant death, which includes miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, and the death of a newborn.

According to Wikipedia.com, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is observed Oct. 15 of each year in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Australian States of Western Australia, New South Wales, New Zealand, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, France, Norway, Kenya, Latin America, Central America, South America, Russia, Germany, South Africa, Japan, China and Kyrgyzstan.

The day is observed with remembrance ceremonies and candle-lighting vigils, concluding with the Lights of Love International Wave of Light, a worldwide lighting of candles and campaign illuminations, that circumnavigate the globe beginning at 7 p.m., in each respective time zone.

In North America, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day is observed as part of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in October.

An estimated 4.1 million deaths of infants less than 1-year-old were reported in 2017 with around 2.6 million stillbirths and between 17 to 22 percent of pregnancies result in miscarriage annually.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day serves to promote greater awareness, remembrance and support of the estimated 1 in 4 individuals and families whose lives are irrevocably altered by the death of their children during pregnancy, at birth, and in infancy.
