Fairhope Intermediate held their annual Rolling with S.T.E.A.M. Program on Monday, May 13. The guest speaker was Mr. Wil Picota an engineer with Airbus.

He shared a fable which led to his theme, “Don’t Let an Opportunity Pass You By.” Mr.Picota shared his life story of how he was inspired as a young boy in school in the country of Panama and how he didn’t let the opportunity pass him by to come to the United States to study and become an engineer.

He told the students they had heard his story, now it was time for them to make their story. He challenged the students to Dream Big and follow their dreams and not to let opportunities pass them by. The students will follow up with this theme by watching the movie, “Dream BIG, Engineering Our World.”

The students, teachers, and parents enjoyed Mr. Picota’s inspirational and motivating speech. The program ended with the FIS Science Club members being recognized and receiving a S.T.E.A.M. pin and certificate for all of their hard work and dedication this year.

Earlier in the year, the members made a model of the Eiffel Tower using whatever type of materials they wanted. Their models were amazing! The club sponsors are Ms. Trina Jackson and Mrs. Nancy Tuttle.

Following the FIS Science Club Members Recognition, the FIS Science Olympiad Team Members were also recognized and they received a certificate for their hard work and dedication as they earned 4th Place in the Science Olympiad Regional Tournament that was held in Auburn. The club sponsors are Mrs. Heidi Jones, Mrs. Sarah Brown, and Ms. Trina Jackson.
