Virgie Lou (Sandy) Campbell

Virgie Lou (Sandy) Campbell, 94, a longtime resident of Orange Beach and Fairhope, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017 in Richmond Hill, Georgia.

Sandy was born in Hamilton, Alabama. She graduated from Jefferson-Hillman Nursing School with a registered nursing degree.

After graduation, she worked in a New Orleans hospital that cared for military personnel where she treated a former Air Force pilot named William Campbell and, afterward, told her co-workers that, "I'm going to marry Bill Campbell." She did.

The family eventually moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where Bill worked for General Electric. Sandy returned to work as a lead RN in a psychiatric hospital.

In 1975, the family returned to Alabama, retiring to their favorite vacation destination, Orange Beach.

Survivors include her husband of over 71 years, William B. Campbell of Richmond Hill, Georgia, four sons, David Campbell of Springboro, Ohio, Donald Campbell of Marietta, Georgia, Greg Campbell of Magnolia Springs, Alabama and Mark Campbell of Richmond Hill, Georgia; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and her sister, Judy Sanderson of Foley, Alabama.

Services will be Saturday, Dec. 9 with viewing at 10 a.m.

Chapel service at 11 a.m., followed by a graveside service.

Arrangements are being handled by Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley, Alabama.
