SUMMERDALE, Alabama — Youth-Reach Gulf Coast, a Christ-centered residential ministry for young men ages 18-22, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Oct 12 with the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce for a new transitional living home.

This facility will allow YRGC to better serve graduates by providing extended support to help the young men they serve successfully transition back into mainstream society.

“There are few things as important as helping build strong, Kingdom-minded men in today’s world,” said David Williams, director of Youth-Reach Gulf Coast. “Becoming a part of the Youth-Reach Gulf Coast family helps shape the course of their lives, positively impacting our community and the world we live in.”

The six-bedroom, four bath duplex facility provides two, 1,600-square-foot family living quarters will two full kitchens and living facilities, Williams said.

“Before COVID, our hope was to have the facility finished by this summer, but now we’re really looking to have it completed within the next nine months,” Williams said.

Residents of the transitional home will be provided with additional ministry support and a structured living environment that reinforces the skills they’ve learned.

Founded in Houston in 1984 by Mobile native Curt Williams, Youth-Reach Gulf Coast is a non-profit, Christ-centered home. Youth-Reach Gulf Coast was founded in Gulf Shores with the help of Orange Beach police officer Billy Berrey (now retired), who continues to serve as the organization’s chairman of the board. The 81-acre campus east of Summerdale was completed in 2008.

The ministry is designed to remold the values and turn around the lives of at-risk young men, ages 18-22.

“Our goal is to take young men who have burned all of their bridges and have no where else to go and give them a safe, structured environment, surrounded by like-minded men and women,” David Williams said. “Our ultimate goal is not about recovery, it is about love and showing them the right way to live. We believe this new facility is a natural step forward in that process.”

According to its website youthreach.org, in its 34 years of operation, Youth-Reach has served more than 3,000 men, including 25 this year.
