Aeropro at Jack Edwards National Airport in Gulf Shores, in partnership with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) present the Rusty Pilots program.

AOPA established the Rusty Pilots Program to encourage pilots who haven't flown for a while to get back into the air. During the program, rusty pilots learn about what’s changed in aviation and brush up on aviation knowledge.

The Rusty Pilots program is developed by AOPA in partnership with local flight training providers like Aeropro in Gulf Shores, in order to create the best environment for getting you back in the air and a part of the general aviation community.

Aeropro has been in operation at Jack Edwards National Airport for a little more than a year providing aircraft maintenance and repair services, avionics sales and installation, scenic beach flights, flight training, aircraft rental and the only pilot shop in the area. Their 17,000 square foot hangar is an Federal Aviation Administration Part 145 certified maintenance and repair station, which holds them to the highest standards of quality and safety.

“The ideal candidate is a pilot who maybe got sidetracked by career, children, finances, or life in general but would really like to become active in aviation again. It's also a great opportunity for active pilots to freshen up their knowledge and gain the ground instruction required by the Federal Aviation Administration every two years to remain current,” said Aeropro senior project manager, Chris Dunn.

It's not just for pilots. Anyone who is interested in flying or learning how to fly is encouraged to participate. The only requirement is membership in AOPA or a $79 registration fee for non-members.

“According to AOPA, more than 5,800 pilots who have attended the seminars have gone back to flying as pilot in command as a result of the course. Our main goal at Aeropro is helping pilots get back into the air, with safety as our top priority,” said Dunn.

The Rusty Pilots program will take place Saturday, Jan. 25, from 1-4 p.m. and instructed by AOPA presenter William Dubois. Pre-registration is encouraged since seats fill up fast. For more information or to register visit www.aopa.org.
