Alabama Coastal Cleanup hosts modify September 26th event to accommodate Hurricane Sally recovery

Posted

Alabama Coastal Cleanup organizers have modified their plans for the event this Saturday, September 26th, 8:00 am and 12:00 noon. Hosts re-organized to accommodate coastal communities after Hurricane Sally. Like storms that have come before, Hurricane Sally was rough, but the Alabama Coastal Cleanup is tough. Read on for event changes near you.

Baldwin County Cleanup Zones
Please disregard the Baldwin County locations. Zone Captains are not hosting these sites. Event coordinators are distributing donated supplies to Baldwin County disaster relief. Volunteers are encouraged to spend their time with local organizations to help communities in need.

Mobile County Cleanup Zones
These zones in Mobile County will have regular Coastal Cleanup check-in stations. They are Bayou La Batre, Big Creek Lake, Chickasaw, Fowl River, Three Mile Creek, and West Mobile Bay.

The Chickasabogue site will host Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, October 2nd. Dauphin Island is delaying Coastal Cleanup until later this fall. You do not have to go to a zone to clean up. Using personal supplies at a site of your choice is acceptable. Log your data with the Ocean Conservancy CleanSwell app.

“This is the largest volunteer event in Alabama. We take pride in coordinating it every year. We are glad we can support our communities in the devastating aftermath of Sally,” said Spencer Ryan, Alabama PALS Executive Director.

Organizers want you to be safe. Please use extra caution when cleaning. Do not do anything you feel may jeopardize your health and safety. Please take note of large objects and report the location to volunteer organizers instead of tackling it yourself. All are encouraged to use personal protective equipment and social distance.

Thank you to the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, the title sponsor for this event and all our valuable corporate sponsors. The People Against A Littered State (Alabama PALS) and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources coordinate this event.
