ROSINTON, Alabama — A Baldwin County man facing abuse charges after Rosinton School officials alerted the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office of a student with visible injuries.

Charles Elvis Harris Jr., 27, has been charged with torture/willful abuse of a child and is in jail on a $50,000 bond, according to Baldwin County Corrections Center records.

According to a release issued Friday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Harris was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 13 after a Baldwin County Deputy, assigned as a school resource officer, was alerted by Rosinton School personnel.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, along with investigators from the Department of Human Resources, responded to the school to assist with the investigation. As a result of that investigation, deputies learned that an 8-year-old received injuries after a belt was placed around his neck and tightened as punishment by an adult.

Harris was interviewed and arrested on the same date. According to the release, the incident occurred at a residence in the Wilcox community.

Baldwin County Corrections Center records list one other arrest for Harris. He was booked on third degree domestic violence charges in October of 2011. Records show he was released the same day on a $2,500 bond. There are no other bookings related to the incident recorded on the website.
