BAY MINETTE, Alabama — A Bay Minette man is facing first degree rape charges after police say he choked, bit and sexually assaulted a woman at his home following a night of partying at a Mobile club.

According to a release issued Monday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call at approximately 5 a.m. Sunday at a home on Newberry Road off of Alabama 225 in the Bromley community.

According to the release, deputies responded to the scene and discovered that the victim was already at the North Baldwin Infirmary receiving medical attention.

Deputies say the victim and 26-year-old James Earl “E.J.” Pruitt were acquaintances and had been to a club in Mobile the previous event. After returning to Pruitt’s home, the victim was reportedly choked, bitten and sexually assaulted in Pruitt’s bedroom. The victim was able to escape from the residence and drove herself to the hospital, according to the report.

Pruitt was found at his residence and was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with first degree rape and remains at the Baldwin County Corrections Center under a $25,000 bond
