City of Bay Minette announces summer camps

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — There are plenty of camps, clinics and educational opportunities this summer in North Baldwin. Here’s a sampling of some of those now available:

“Just Dance” Camp will meet 9 a.m. to noon May 28-31 at the Rec Center. This dance camp is for youth ages 6-years and older. The fee is $75. Registration is available at teamsideline.com/bayminette or stop by the Rec Department.
Registration will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 29-31 for the Light of the City Summer Day Camp. The free summer day camp will be held 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, June 1 through July 31 at the Douglsville School of Arts & Recreation. There is no fee to participate but space is limited. An opening day/ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 1.
A Baseball Clinic will be held June 3-4 at Halliday Park, under the direction of Baldwin County High School Coach Kyle Hunter. The camp will meet from 9 a.m. to noon both days and is open to youth ages 6- to 13-years. The registration fee is $50 for the first camper and $30 for each additional sibling. Campers will receive instruction in fielding, batting, pitching and other vital tools to become a successful player. For more information, contact Coach Kyle Hunter at 334-707-1929.

Youth Golf Clinics will be offered again this summer at Holly Hills Municipal Golf Course. The clinics will be under the direction of Golf Pro Mikki Bjuro. Four sessions are planned and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Beginner Sessions will be held June 5-7 and June 19-21. Intermediate Sessions will be held June 12-14 and June 26-28. Classes will meet 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The cost is $100 per session. Private lessons are also available. To book a spot, call Holly Hills clubhouse at 580-2553.
A Volleyball Camp will be held June 10-13 at Coastal Alabama Community College in Bay Minette. The Dr. Ritchie Dulaney Individual Skills Volleyball Camp will meet 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gym and will include individual skill development and daily competition. Registration is $175. Campers should bring water bottles and knee pads. Drinks and snacks will be sold during breaks and at lunch. For more information, call Dulaney at 251-391-8416.
Sun Chief Basketball Camp will be held 9 a.m. to noon June 17-20 at Coastal Alabama Community College. The camp is open to youth in third through eighth grades. The fee is $35 per camper. For more information, visit http://www.coastalsunchiefs.com/camps/camps-list.
Baldwin County High School Lady Tigers will hold a Softball Camp June 25 at the school for ages 7-years and older. The camp will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a break for lunch. The fee is $25 and registration will open at 8 a.m. Campers should bring glove, bat and sack lunch.
Baldwin County High School will hold the Coach McDaniel Youth Football Camp on July 9 at Lyle Underwood Stadium. The Youth Camp (kindergarten through fourth grades) will be held 5 to 7 p.m. and the Middle School Camp (fifth to eighth grades) will take place 7 to 9 p.m. Registration is $10 and each camper will get a commemorative shirt. Registration begins just before the start time of each camp.
Bay Minette Police Department is joining forces with Baldwin County High School’s 21st Century Learning Center for a new summer camp. Cops & Kids will be held June 26-28 in the school cafeteria. The camp will be open to children ages 6- to 14-years. A variety of local law enforcement and community agencies will provide activities for students to gain awareness of public safety. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in arts/crafts and recreation activities. A Family Fun Day will be held Saturday, June 29, with a cookout and inflatables. The purpose of this camp is to help build productive, reliable citizens for our community. Registration is $15 and forms will soon be available at area schools and Bay Minette City Hall.
The North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education will hold a series of summer enrichment camps for youth. Space is limited in each camp and can only be confirmed with payment. Registration forms are available at area school offices, Bay Minette City Hall and www.nbcee.org. The schedule of camps includes:
June 3-7: Summer Band Camp – 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Bay Minette Middle School Band room. (Rising seventh and eighth grade students who have participated in band for at least one year.) Students will have the opportunity to play popular band tunes and gain valuable experience which will include individual, small group, and full band settings. An informal “Show and Tell” concert for family and friends will round out the week at 11 a.m. Cost $40. Instructor: Josh Williams.
June 10-14: Beauty School Camp – 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at North Baldwin Center for Technology. (Rising fifth through eighth grades.) Through the week students will learn the ins and outs of several beauty techniques including shampoo and conditioning, braiding, manicures, pedicures, facials and make-up application. On Friday, students can invite a friend or relative to be on pampered with all the skills learned during the camp. Each day will also include a safety lesson for each technique presented. Students must provide their own make-up. Class size limited to 12 students. Cost: $50. Instructor: Vicki Defee.
June 10-14: Sixth Grade Band Camp – 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. Bay Minette Middle School Band Room. Morning camp session (9 to 11 a.m.) is open to brass instrument players (trumpets, trombones, baritones). Afternoon camp session (1 to 3 p.m.) will focus on woodwinds (flutes, clarinets and saxophones). Rising sixth grade students interested in being a part of the band program can receive hands-on instruction to prepare for the year ahead. ***Pre-requisite for this camp: Students should meet with band teachers at Perdido/Stapleton/Pine Grove/Delta on Parent Night to select instruments. Cost: $40. Instructor: Robert Williams.
June 24-28: Learn the Ukulele – 10 a.m.-noon at Bay Minette Middle School Band Room. (Rising fourth through sixth grades). Students will spend a fun week learning basic ukulele skills such as playing open strings, scales, steps, skips and three easy chords. Ukuleles will be provided, but students will receive information on how to purchase one if desired. Cost: $40. Instructor: Melanie Brannan.
July 15-18: “Growing Engineers: A S.T.E.M. Science Camp" 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Bay Minette Middle School. (Rising first through sixth grades). Students will have fun learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). We will explore science watching chemical reactions occur, experience technology by playing coding games, practice engineering with building challenges, and discover how math can make fun art! Cost: $40. Instructors: Krista Landenwich, Holly Powell and Sherry Jones.
