FAIRHOPE, Ala. – Bayshore Christian School senior Ashley Conrad signed with the University of Mobile Rams to play collegiate volleyball April 12. Conrad inked her scholarship papers in the Eagles’ gym with teammates, classmates, friends and family, BCS head volleyball coach Dave Omtvedt along with UM volleyball head coach Jon Campbell.

“Ashley is a very talented athlete, being a lefty hitter always helps,” Campbell said. “She has a great jump serve and she can set, so her versatility is a great asset for us to look forward to. Plus, she’s a great student as well and a good Christian kid with integrity and character and that’s what we’re about.”

Conrad, who moved to the Eastern Shore before the start of her junior year said she was excited about playing at the next level.

“I’m really looking forward to going to the University of Mobile and playing for coach Jon and coach Amber (Campbell, UM assistant varsity and head JV coach).”

Omtvedt said Conrad was key to the Eagles back-to-back Panhandle Christian Conference championships in 2016-17.

“We are definitely going to miss her next year,” Omtvedt said. “Coach Campbell is getting a very talented athlete and an outstanding young lady with Ashley. She was a leader on and off the court and a good example to the younger players as well.”

In her senior season Conrad recorded 303 kills, 152 set assists, 42 aces and 75 digs. For her career at BCS, the left-handed hitter notched 483 kills, 243 set assists, 140 aces and 205 digs.

“Coach Dave really helped me get better at the sport,” Conrad said. “He’s an amazing teacher. Never had a better coach and he’s also a really good person as well and a good example to all of us.

“I just want to thank him and his family and the whole Bayshore family. This is such a good community of people and what they have all meant to me and my family is hard to put into words. I’m so thankful to God for leading us here.

“And I want to thank my mom and dad (Natalie and Chris), especially, for all their support and encouragement for me along the way.”

Conrad is considering majoring in business with a minor in Biblical studies.

Campbell will begin his 14th season at the helm of the Rams program in 2018. The UM varsity went 38-4 last season.
