Gulf State Park needs volunteer help with recycled Christmas trees

Posted

Gulf State Park needs volunteers Feb. 3 to assist with recycled Christmas trees. Each year, used Christmas trees are placed in the dunes to accumulate sand and help the dunes continue to grow.

Each spring, native plants are planted around the trees to help build the dunes. These dune structures are the first line of defense against storm surge and an important part of the coastal habitat.

Park staff and volunteers will meet at Gulf State Beach Pavilion, Feb. 3, at 8:30 a.m. Bring a pair of work gloves. If you have any questions, please call the Nature Center at Gulf State Park.
