Mary Katherine Stewart has been recognized for her swimming performance. The Daphne High School graduate was name to the all-Southern Athletic Association first team. The Birmingham-Southern College freshman qualified to compete in 800-yard freestyle relay at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship. As of March 15, she had the team's fastest 100 backstroke and 50 butterfly times. She ranked second in the 200 and 500 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 400 individual medley times.
More women’s swimming
Annalane Lee of Birmingham-Southern placed eighth in the 200 backstroke at the SAA championship. The freshman is out of Gulf Shores High.
Women’s golf
Vanderbilt University’s Virginia Green shot 234 (75-79-80) at the Reynolds Oconee Lake Invitational. The Fairhope High product competed as an individual.
Football
Brandon Silvers is among three quarterbacks for the Memphis Express of the Alliance Football League. The former Dolphin filled in for the injured starter Saturday and completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 242 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown in a 22-9 loss to the Salt Lake Stallions.
Memphis Express defensive back Jonathan Cook had three solo tackles and one fumble recovery. He played for Spanish Fort.
Men’s swimming
Jackson Tunks finished fifth in the 200 backstroke for Queens University of Charlotte at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference championship. The Fairhope alumnus scored 14 points while posting an NCAA B-cut time and helping the team to the conference title.
