MANDEVILLE, La. – Brandy McGuire and Berlyn Wedgeworth of Gulf Shores brought home the gold as 2017 champions at the USAW Louisiana State Championship in their divisions.

The two Olympic weightlifters and members of A.B.B. CrossFit and Ace's Better Bodies of Gulf Shores won the USAW Louisiana State Championship in their divisions on July 29.

Both McGuire and Wedgeworth turned in great performances on the snatch and the clean and jerk lifts.

Wedgeworth 's total weight lifted was 180kgs (396.8lbs) to claim the Senior 75+kg division championship.

McGuire won the Master's 85kg division crown with a total title-winning lift of 137kgs (302lbs).

Upcoming competitions include the Sand Bar Slam, Sept. 30 in Pensacola Beach, Fla., alongside the Pensacola Beach Brawl. They will also compete in Baton Rouge, La. in December at the Gayle Hatch Christmas Competition, but the dates are not final yet.

(Hatch was the men's coach for the 2005 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.)

McGuire and Hatch won their divisions in their competitions in December and hope to again for a second-straight year.
