Young Silverhill resident living ‘dream come true’ with spot on Food Network’s Kids Baking Championship

NEW YORK — It was a dream come true for 12-year-old Brooklyn Kyzar, who is set to compete on the Kids Baking Championship, set to begin airing Monday, Jan. 7 on Food Network at 8 p.m. CT.
“It was a great experience to be on the Food Network doing what I love to do and making lots of friends,” said Kyzar, a seventh grader who attends classes through the Baldwin County Virtual School.
Kyzar is one of a dozen new talented young bakers, ranging in age from 9 to 13, who will be tested in difficult dessert challenges during the new season. From sugar cookies to mini cheesecakes, and from macarons to brownies and blondies, Valerie Bertinelli and Duff Goldman mentor the bakers through the tasty tasks to see who will measure up in the competition.
“They are awesome,” said Kyzar of the two hosts.
Only one will take the cake and the sweet grand prize of $25,000, a feature in Food Network Magazine, and the title of Kids Baking Champion.

“This season of Kids Baking Championship delivers new challenges with surprising twists, making this the toughest most exciting competition yet,” said Courtney White, president of the Food Network. “Even the most skilled pastry chefs would crumble under the pressure. The abilities of the young bakers to create outstanding treats is truly remarkable.”
Kyzar said she has always enjoyed baking and watching Food Network shows with her mom, “so to actually be competing on the Food Network is a dream come true.”
It’s no surprise that most of the shows Kyzar has enjoyed watching over the years are competition shows like the Best Baker in America, Chopped Junior and Cake Wars and Cupcake Wars.
“Shows like that really inspired me to want to do this,” she said.
Kyzar answered an online casting call, sending in a video application and photos showcasing examples of her work before getting a call to do in-person interviews to earn a spot on the show.
This season showcases exciting new challenges featuring the latest dessert trends, lots of irresistible sweets, and tons of flavor and fun. Throughout the 10 episodes the competitors show off their skills and creativity as they whip up impressive confections, from freaky flavor tarts using ingredients like jalapeno, goat cheese yuzu and anise, to dramatically erupting monkey bread volcanoes.
On the premiere, the bakers must serve cupcakes featuring Duff’s favorite ingredient – bacon. But that’s not all, each baker must also include an assigned ingredient like maple, chocolate, peanut, caramel, cinnamon, ginger, or cherry. Just when they get baking, Valerie throws the bakers a curveball and adds another one of her favorite ingredients into the mix – marzipan. The baker that crumbles under the pressure will be eliminated. On Monday, March 11 at 8 p.m. CT, the championship concludes as one talented baker will rise to the top in the grand finale.
Other competitors include: Jenna Alnatur, 9, of Clifton, New Jersey; Gavin Crawford, 11, of Pearland, Texas; Paige Goehner, 11, of Blaine, Minnesota; Misha Jones, 12, of Annapolis, Maryland; Kasey Moeggenborg, 13, of Rockford, Michigan; Jaxon Remillard, 11, of Mansfield, Texas; Meadow Roberts, 10 of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Nyah Rosado, 11, of New Rochelle, New York; Davis Sams, 13, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Madison Totaro, 11, of Austin, Texas; and Karthik Vemparala, 11, of Somerset, New Jersey.
