Robert Myrick passed away Dec. 1, 2018 at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama.

He was 95, and throughout his life he knew joy, accomplishment and hardship in equal measure, but he embodied the phrase he adopted as his motto: "I'm too blessed to be depressed."

He was married twice, the second time for 23 years to Wilma Beggs Myrick, and she was his most significant partner on his journey. Together they had a daughter who he loved deeply and often spoke of as the light of his life, and they raised her with humor, compassion and Christian faith.

He served as an X-ray technician and staff photographer in the U.S. Army, and also found success as a master salesman and manager early in life. In addition to having his own furniture business and coffee company, he had a long career in facilities management, and was in charge of corporate headquarters for Houston Light & Power and Gulf Oil.

He was also a gifted contractor, restoring a 100-year-old farmhouse with Wilma in Kitchens Mill, South Carolina and donating his talents to help many people who needed home repair but could not afford those services.

He also loved animals very deeply and cared for them throughout his life, and he was an ardent fan of the Houston Oilers and Astros, the Texas Longhorns and of course the Bama Tide.

His adopted hometowns of Houston, Texas and Fairhope, Alabama were precious to him as well, and the beauty and the warmth of the latter sustained him in the last quarter century of his life.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin Myrick and son-in-law, Phillip McEachern; as well as a large network of family and friends that cherished him.

He will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens of Fairhope in a private graveside ceremony on Dec. 15, 2018, followed by a celebration of his life at First Baptist Church of Fairhope, with visitation at 3 p.m. and service at 3:30.

His family encourages anyone wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers to do so, and to give to the animal rescue organization of their choice or to First Baptist of Fairhope.
