ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Robertsdale Park, Street and Tree Committee hosted its annual Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, Feb. 23 on the north end of Honeybee Park.

This year the Park Street and Tree Committee raffled off a corkscrew willow, won by Karen and Gary Lindell in celebration of Arbor Day and a bottle brush, won by Joyce Nims, in celebration of Alabama’s bicentennial, and gave away 1,200 other trees on a first-come, first-served basis, including pawpaw tree, fringetree, Western mayhaw, sweetbay magnolia, wild black cherry and sawtooth oak.

The annual Arbor Day celebration was part of Robertsdale’s qualification as a Tree City USA community. In order to qualify as a Tree City, municipalities must meet standards established by The Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters.
