The 2018 Baldwin Heart Walk, an event to benefit the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association, will take place on Nov. 3, beginning at 8 a.m. at OWA in Foley. Approximately 1,000 guests are expected to attend the walk.

The chair of the 2018 Baldwin Heart Walk is Elizabeth Turner Cole, AVP South Branch Operations for Alabama Credit Union. Sponsors for the 2018 Baldwin Heart Walk include OWA; the Snook Foundation; Audet Electric, Inc.; Cardiology Associates; Daphne Utilities; Riviera Utilities; Roberts Brothers; Ascend Performance Materials; Baldwin County Sewer Service; Columbia Southern University; Cunningham Delaney Construction LLC; FSA Risk and Benefits LLC; Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood; Jeff and Allison Williams; Live Oak Village and Community Hospice; Standard Furniture; Bryant Bank; Uniti; and Fox 10.

Combining fitness and philanthropy, this annual walk brings together walk teams, individual walkers, survivors of heart disease and stroke, and lifestyle change heroes who are all taking steps toward a healthier lifestyle while raising funds to combat heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 5 leading killers of American men and women. Proceeds go toward funding research, education and community programs targeting these issues.

“It’s imperative that we come together as a community to raise awareness of the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and stroke- the number one and number five causes of death in the nation respectively. Educating the community about the simple ways to be heart healthy is of paramount importance to the American Heart Association and our community partners,” Bridgett Dunn, American Heart Association Baldwin County Regional Director explains.

The American Heart Association leverages a network of community partners who have dedicated themselves to becoming a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.

Through their support and advocacy for the cause of a healthier Alabama Gulf Coast, partners like OWA can help make a generational impact on the health of the community.

“OWA is a proud supporter of the Heart Walk and the mission of the America Heart Association. Cardiovascular disease is so prevalent in our area that almost everyone knows someone who has been touched by it. Through our participation in the Baldwin Heart Walk, we hope to send a positive message of support and solidarity to those battling cardiovascular disease and stroke, and we hope that we can help make Baldwin County a heart-healthy community,” said Kristin Hellmich, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for OWA.

Through events like the Baldwin Heart Walk, the American Heart Association strives to reach its 2020 impact goal:

By 2020, to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent, while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent.
