Bay Minette mourns loss of Council member

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — The City of Bay Minette and North Baldwin community is mourning the loss of longtime Bay Minette City Councilman Danleigh Corbett.
Born in Birmingham, Corbett was a lifelong resident of Bay Minette. He died Saturday, Sept. 14 at Mobile Infirmary.
A retired salesman, Corbett served on the Bay Minette City Council for 12 years, serving District 1. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Agatha Catholic Church in Bay Minette.
“I have had the pleasure of both a professional and civic relationship with Danleigh Corbett,” said fellow City Council member Mike Philips. “His wit and wisdom will be missed by all of us here. He was a dedicated public servant.”
According to a post on Facebook, Bay Minette Mayor Robert A. “Bob” Wills declared that all flags be flown at half-staff at all city buildings through Wednesday.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague,” Wills said. “Danleigh was a Bay Minette native and truly loved our town. He served it faithfully on the Council and he and his family supported the community at large in so many ways. He will truly be missed. Our prayers to Anne and the family.”
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Anne Halliday Corbett; five children, Margaret Anne Corbett (Joseph) LoCicero of Clearwater, Florida; Howard Danleigh Corbett Jr. of Bay Minette; George Andrew (Lynn) Corbett of Fairhope; Halli Corbett (Mark) Leidner of Pensacola, Florida; and Christopher Michael (Brandi) Corbett of Fairhope; 13 grandchildren, Heather Reeder, Catherine Toon, Cecila LoCicero, Victor LoCicero, Mary Mason Corbett, Lee Corbett, Emily Corbett, Andrew Corbett, Amelia Corbett, Madeleine Leidner, Ann Lee Leidner, Christopher Corbett and Jimbo Corbett; and three great grandchildren, David Toon, Corey Reeder and Adelynn Reeder.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18 at St. Agatha Catholic Church with Father Milstead officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette.
The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Agatha Catholic Church, 1001 Hand Ave., Bay Minette; Bay Minette Public Library, 205 W. Second St., or to the North Baldwin Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 190, Bay Minette.
