Capt. Jackson "Jack" Carl Miller Jr., 72, passed away at his home in Fairhope on Oct. 18, 2019 from complications related to multiple myeloma.

Jack loved spending time with family and friends, especially on the water. He was always up for chargrilled oysters at the Bluegill, burgers at Pirate's Cove, or a sunset boat ride on Mobile Bay.

He took great pride in his career on the waterfront, both as a tugboat captain with Mobile Bay Towing and a Mobile Bar Pilot.

He loved engines and motorcycles, and was a longtime member of the Order of Inca Mardi Gras Society.

In recent years, Jack enjoyed spending time at the Arrowhead hunting lodge and reconnecting with old friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and love for his family.

Capt. Jack is survived by his children, Kathleen Miller of Mobile, Jaime (Karen) Miller of Mobile and Jackson (Anna) Miller III of Fairhope; grandchildren, Donovan, Hannah, Kennedy and Travis; sister, Ann Miller (Bobby) McLeod of Mobile; nephew, Rob McLeod of Mobile; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Sharolyn Swoape Miller; and his parents, Jackson Carl Miller Sr. and Dean Manning Miller of Mobile.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope.

A casual gathering celebrating his life will follow Thursday evening from 5 until 6:30 p.m. at the Fairhope Yacht Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society.

The family extends deep gratitude to the Southern Cancer Center in Foley for their compassionate care of Jack in his battle with cancer.
