FOLEY, Ala., October 28, 2020 – South Baldwin Regional Medical Center today announced that Chief Executive Officer Daniel McKinney has given notice he will resign to accept the CEO position at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. effective January 1st next year. He will remain in the leadership role with SBRMC through December. “I remain humbled to have had the opportunity to serve South Baldwin Regional Medical Center for a collective five years. The team at SBRMC is made of incredibly talented individuals. I look forward to working with each of them to ensure a seamless transition in continued pursuit of advancing healthcare in Southern Baldwin County." McKinney first joined the hospital’s administration as the Assistant Chief Executive Officer from 2012-2015 and returned to the facility as CEO in March 2018. Under McKinney’s leadership, South Baldwin Regional Medical Center has strengthened quality of care and the patient experience, as demonstrated by Primary Stroke and Sepsis accreditations, a 5-star rating by CMS, and rating as a top 100 hospital by Watson Health. Hospital board chair Steve Love commended McKinney for his steady leadership, saying “He has calmly led and supported employees, medical staff and the community throughout the hospital’s pandemic response and weathered the storm when Hurricane Sally hit in September. Daniel has been instrumental in the recruitment of specialty and primary care physicians so patients can secure more services close to home.” Through his success in recruitment and alignment of specialty and primary care physicians, the hospital has launched robotic-assisted joint replacement and established SBRMC as a teaching facility with the start of the 2018 Family Medicine Residency Program. Community access to services is being expanded with construction of the new freestanding emergency department in Gulf Shores and the planning process to significantly renovate and expand SBRMC’s main campus is underway. “Daniel has established a strong leadership team at the hospital and I have great confidence in them to complete important initiatives including construction of the freestanding emergency department in Gulf Shores set to open next summer and the significant renovation and expansion of the current facility,” said Keith Granger, CHSPSC, LLC, Regional President. A search to identify McKinney’s successor will begin immediately. Members of the board, medical staff and administration will participate in the search to identify the right candidate to lead the hospital.
