Chamber hosts ribbon cutting at The Reel Bait & Tackle Shop in Summerdale

SUMMERDALE, Alabama — After nearly a year in business, owners of The Reel Bait & Tackle Shop in Summerdale feel like they have finally landed in the right place.

“This is our third location in not too many months,” said Miranda Jackson, who owns the business with her brother and sister-in-law, Josh and Haley Carden, who manage the day-to-day operation. “We feel like God has finally led us to a place where we can call home.”

The trio and their families hosted a ribbon cutting on Friday, June 19 with the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce at 429 Alabama 59, corner of County Road 34 South in Summerdale. They also hosted a grand opening celebration on Saturday, June 20.

“We just want to say how much we appreciate the Chamber for hosting this event,” Jackson said, “and we want to thank the town of Summerdale for their support through all of this.”

All graduates of Robertsdale High School, the trio have been in business for a total of a year, first in the Summerdale Flea Market before moving into their new location just a couple of weeks ago.

“We kept planning to have a grand opening, but things just kept coming up,” Josh Carden said. “Then the pandemic hit and things just kind of got put on hold.”

Then when an opportunity came to move to the new location, longtime home of American Seafood Shrimp Outlet, they jumped at the chance.

Not only does The Reel offer a wide variety of both live and frozen bait, and fishing products, they also offer repair work, custom-made products and vintage products, both in store, and on their online marketplace.

“We try to keep seasonal products in stock and we always try to keep live shrimp, which is always in season,” Josh Carden said. “We also keep a lot of parts in stock, so we’re able to keep shipping costs down.”

The Reel also offers a full line of apparel and you might also get tips on the best places to go and what to use to get the best results.

“I have a lot of buddies who are fisherman and we are always communicating about what’s biting and where,” Josh Carden said, “so you might even get some good tips when you come to our shop.”

The business is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Check out the website at or call 251-504-9693 for more information.
