MOBILE, Alabama — The Chapman family of Bay Minette recently made a very special delivery to some very special children at USA Children’s and Women’s in Mobile.

The family collected My Life dolls, boxing gloves and “Beautiful Like Me” coloring and activity books through donations from friends and relatives. In total, they were able to deliver 40 dolls, 12 sets of boxing gloves and several coloring and activity books to children in the hospital.

The delivery was a pay-it-forward moment for the family, who experienced a similar kindness not so long ago when their own daughter was a patient there.

Starla Chapman was diagnosed with acute myeloblastic leukemia in late 2011, Starla battled back and since then has been on a mission to raise money and awareness about the need to better fund childhood cancer research.

Starla is now a fifth grader at Bay Minette Elementary and was recently named the honorary chair for RIDEYELLOW, a charity bike ride that benefits Camp Rap A Hope.
