Playoff bound Trojans dominate, but Dolphins battle to the last play

GULF SHORES - Baldwin County High School Football games were pushed from Friday night to Saturday afternoon due to severe weather warnings. Field conditions were muddy and wet in Gulf Shores as the Gulf Shores Dolphins, who suffered a heavy set of injuries, hosted the Daphne Trojans. The Trojans started this game by dominating almost every matchup that the Dolphins displayed. Daphne went into halftime with a 42-0 score and took a 45-7 Region 1 win.

The Trojans rarely had a negative play. The DHS offense had 315 total yards. Quarterback Trent Battle played about a quarter and a half as the Trojans were up 35-0 by the time backup quarterback Kaden Pierce came in. Battle threw for nine completions (out of 13 attempts) for 99 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a big rush for 26 yards. Sophomore running back Tyler Bradley rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on six rushes.

The Dolphins’ defense was overwhelmed at the line of scrimmage and in zone coverages schemes. Senior linebacker Jackson Carey led the team in total tackles with eight and had two and a half tackles for loss.

Defensively, the Trojans dominated as the Dolphins had to rely on their third-string quarterback due to injuries. Senior wide receiver John Barros got the start at the quarterback position against an aggressive Trojans’ defense which had 10 total tackles for loss and only allowed 52 total yards on.

The Dolphins were able to get on the scoreboard thanks to a 20-yard connection from Barros to wide receiver Thor Tobiassen. Trojans junior linebacker Will Powell and defensive tackle Joseph Stanton each had two tackles for loss. Defensive James Quinnelly had a sack.

The Dolphins (1-7) will travel to face their rivals at Spanish Fort (4-3) this Friday. The Trojans (4-4) on a three-game win streak and will host St. Paul’s (6-2).
