BAY MINETTE, Alabama — A Silverhill man who escaped from an assigned job in Bay Minette Wednesday from the Mobile Work Release Center was recaptured that evening, according to a release issued Thursday by the Alabama Department of Corrections.

According to an ADOC release issued Wednesday, 34-year-old Carl Mitchell left an assigned job location in Bay Minette at approximately 6:26 a.m. on Wednesday. He was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. the same day.

Officials arrested Mitchell when he returned to the worksite at the time his shift was scheduled to end for pickup by DOC staff. He surrendered without incident.

Mitchell, whose address on the Baldwin County Corrections website was listed as Patterson Road in Silverhill, was convicted in March of 2004 in Baldwin County on charges of distribution of a controlled substance. He was serving part of a 20-year sentence at the Mobile Work Release Center, according to the release.

Mitchell has several bookings listed on the Baldwin County Corrections website dating back to 2001, including a March 1, 2004 booking, which also included charges of domestic violence, third degree; and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Mitchell was assigned to Mobile Work Release Center and pending a parole hearing in August. He faces charges for the escape.
