FAIRHOPE, Ala. — All phases of the game clicked with the right timing for Fairhope to take a big region win over Davidson Friday 31-17 at W.C. Majors Field.

Devin Mitchell threw two touchdown passes to C.J. Edwards and helped the Pirates establish an early lead. Davidson rallied and took a 10-7 lead at the half, but FHS then regained and held the Pirates’ advantage in the second half. Cole Deeds made field goals of 42 and 37 yards and punted well all night to lead the special teams’ efforts.

The Fairhope defensive side also scored twice with interceptions by Noah May (40 yards) and Gibbs Sherrell (28-yards).

“I can’t say enough about how everybody on this team pulled together,” said Fairhope head coach Tim Carter. “Offense, defense and special teams all did great. Cole Deeds’ and the kicking game was a huge factor in this win. Devin did a great job of running the offense. But it was a real team effort and you always like to see that.”

With the Pirates leading the Warriors 24-17 and 54 seconds left in the game, May intercepted a Davidson pass at the 40 and ran it back for the final margin.

Davidson’s defense also kept the Warriors within striking distance. Jukyle Hunter picked up a fumble and returned it 90 yards for a DHS touchdown in the second half. Davidson’s Kolbe Blunt had a 4-yard TD run and Joe Montano kicked a 34-yard field goal. Jason Williams’ second-quarter interception set up the Warriors’ go-ahead score before the half.

Fairhope improved to 5-0 in Class 7A Region 1 with the league win and 6-1 overall.

Fairhope travels to Mobile for a Thursday-night game to face Murphy at Ladd-Peebles at 7 p.m.

Davidson (4-3, 4-2) travels to Class 5A Jackson for a non-league game on Friday.
