Foley Event Center celebrates Grand Opening

FOLEY – After being under construction for more than a year, the Foley Event Center is finally opening its doors to the public. On Sept. 28, the public will be able to tour the building and see all the space has to offer.

On Sept. 8-10 the center hosted its first event, with more than 500 gymnasts in town for the Bounders Beach Bash. Though this was the first time the building was open, next week the public will be given the chance to walk behind the scenes and see firsthand all the state-of-the-art features the Foley Event Center has to offer.

Interim Director of Foley Sports Tourism Complex, David Thompson said it’s a day the city department has been looking forward to for a while.

“We are incredibly excited to share this facility with the public,” Thompson said. “The Foley Event Center was built to improve the quality of life in our city, both through generating tourism dollars and giving our residents the opportunity to see world-class sporting events. Next week we finally get to share it with them.”

The day starts with media only hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting immediately following. The facility will have tours open to the public from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors can stick around after the tours for the USPCA K-9 Trials free demonstration at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex championship field. The demonstration starts at 6:30 p.m. but visitors are encouraged to arrive at 6 p.m. to see all the police vehicles enter with lights and sirens. They will see the top dogs in categories including agility and bite work, show off their skills.
