Ramsey Shane has been a versatile contributor for the Birmingham-Southern College women's swimming team.
The sophomore out of Fairhope High School has been placing well in multiple strokes.
She finished a season-best second in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Viking Classic Invitational and was third in the 1,000 freestyle against Sewanee.
Shane was third in the 200 butterfly and fourth in the 200 individual medley against Hendrix. She was fourth in the 400 IM at the Viking Classic. In addition, she has competed in the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle.

More women's swimming

Trista Phelps scored for Florida Institute of Technology in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly at the Division II Fall Showcase. She is from Robertsdale High.

Women's gymnastics

University of Alaska Anchorage sophomore Sophia Hyderally has been injured all season. The Bayside Academy graduate "is questionable to return to the lineup soon," according to Nate Sagan, UAA associate media relations director.

Baseball

Junior left-hander Tony Kucera was the opening day pitcher for University of West Florida. The past Golden Bear allowed five hits and one earned run in five innings against Florida Southern. He struck out seven but did not earn a decision.

Freshman Jaxen Forrester was the opening day pitcher for East Mississippi Community College. The Spanish Fort High product allowed three hits and two earned runs in four innings to suffer the loss against Enterprise State.

East Mississippi Community College freshman pitcher Philip Martin lost his start against Enterprise State. Previously at Fairhope, he allowed four hits and four earned runs in one and one-third innings.

Mississippi College sophomore catcher Brandon Broussard hit a two-run triple in a loss to Lindenwood. He is a former Golden Bear.

Bayside Academy graduate Austin Chastang has transferred from Southeastern Louisiana to Mississippi College. He is a redshirt freshman pitcher.

Murray State junior catcher Mike Farnell has been named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List. The recognition is given annually to the top catcher in Division I baseball. This season, Farnell is hitting .276 with five RBIs and has drawn six walks while scoring four runs. He has also been behind the plate for a pitching staff that boasts an ERA of 4.13, the second-lowest mark in the league so far this year.

Men's tennis

University of South Alabama freshman Nathan Fruh teamed with Olivier Gringas to win 7-5 at No. 2 doubles against Xavier. Fruh played for Fairhope.
