Updates on Baldwin athletes competing at the next level

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Cross country runner Ash Midyett recently was honored for his performance. The University of the South senior finished the Southern Athletic Association Championship 8K in third place to earn all-conference first-team recognition, the first of his career.

The Bayside Academy graduate ran a personal best of 25 minutes, 56.91 seconds in leading the Sewanee Tigers men. He was selected as the Tiger of the Week after his performance at the Berry Invitational in Rome, Ga. and is a two-time All-Conference Honorable Mention selection with the cross-country team.

Additionally, with the track and field program at Sewanee, he is a two-time conference champion in the 800 meters, as he has been a member of the All-SAA Team in each of his first three seasons.

More men's cross country

University of Central Arkansas sophomore Jared Touart finished the Southland Conference Championship 8K in 54th place among 92. The Fairhope High product, who ran a career-best time, was fifth among the Bears.

Baron Gossman of Methodist University placed 56th among 106 in the USA South Conference Championship 8K. Out of Spanish Fort High, he was seventh among the Monarchs.

Men's basketball

Jamerious Anderson led Coastal Alabama Community College-South with 16 points against LaGrange College. The Baldwin County High graduate had four assists and three rebounds.

Deontaye Buskey had eight points in Charleston Southern University's opener. The starter out of Daphne High had five rebounds and four assists.

Jacob Champion started the Huntingdon College opener and finished with six points and one rebound. The senior guard competed for Fairhope.

Daphne resident Hunter Preston had three points and two rebounds for Columbus State University against Barton.

Women's basketball

Daphne alumna Tytiana Pickett had eight points for Snead State Community College against Andrew College. She added five rebounds.

Women's cross country

Freshman Mandaline Thomas was eighth among University of North Alabama's entries in the ASUN Conference Championship 5K. Sheplayed for Daphne.

Also from the Trojans, Nicole Luther was second among University of Auburn at Montgomery's runners at the Gulf South Conference Championship 5K. The freshman finished 56th among 91.

Previously at Fairhope, sophomore Lexie Williams was seventh among University of Montevallo's entries in the Gulf South championship.
