ROBERTSEDALE, Alabama — Family, friends and neighbors gathered at the Alfa Insurance office in Robertsdale on Wednesday, Feb. 25 to celebrate the career of longtime agent Carl Davis, who is retiring.

“He is Alfa in Robertsdale,” said Nancy Somerville, customer service representative with Alfa in Robertsdale. “This place won’t be the same without him.”

The 1978 graduate of Robertsdale High School, Davis says he fell into his 38-year stint in the insurance business “by accident.”

“I didn’t have a job and my mom was pressing me to get a job,” he said. “We had a next-door neighbor who was an insurance agent and he said I could come to work for him. I thought I could do it until something else came along, and here we are.”

After 5 ½ years of applying, Davis said, he was hired as an agent for Alfa 32 ½ years ago.

“It really is about the people I have served through the years,” he said. “To be with a family at their worst possible moment and to be able to make a difference for them is very rewarding.”

According to his bio on alfainsurance.com, Davis’ list of accomplishments include:

•Alfa Insurance Top Property Insurance Producer, 1998-1999.

•Alfa Insurance First runner-up, Top Property Insurance Producer in 2000 and 2001.

•Alabama Auto Top Distinguished Field Underwriter for Alfa in 2012.

•Top Distinguished Field Underwriter in Property for the Southern Region, 2000, 2005.

•Insurance, Distinguished Field Underwriter in Auto, Property and Commercial Insurance, 1999.

•Alfa Insurance, Alabama Agent of the Month for August.

•Alfa Insurance, Alabama Top Auto Producer, First Runner-Up, 2010.

He has also received 26 All Star Awards, 20 Super Star Awards, five DSA Bronze, five DSA Silver and two DSA Gold awards in his 32 years as an Alfa agent.

Davis is also a longtime member of the Robertsdale Rotary Club serving as club president in 2016-17. He was co-Rotarian of the Year in 2016 and is a multiple time Paul Harris Fellow.

He has also served on the Board of Directors and is a past Board president for the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife Debbie have two grown children, a daughter, Emily Mabe; and a son, Doug; and two grandchildren, Abigail, 15 months, and Liam Mabe, 6.

Alfa, which stands for Alabama farmers, was founded in 1946 as Alabama Farm Bureau, part of the Alabama Farmers Federation. The Alabama Farmers Federation split with the national Farm Bureau organization in 1981.

Davis said Bo Bishop would be taking over his responsibilities as Alfa agent with the Robertsdale office.
