Mavis M. Odom, a resident of Gulf Shores, Alabama, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2019.

Mavis spread her love of Christ to anyone who would listen. She had many talents, including the ability to grow beautiful flowers, cook delicious meals, quote any scripture, and be an amazing, loving caregiver for anyone in need. She was so proud of everyone in her family and would brag to anyone who would listen.

Mavis was born on March 18, 1922 in Waynesboro, Mississippi. Through the years, she was a dedicated member of Myers Memorial Baptist Church in Eight Mile, Riverside Baptist Church in Mobile, and Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church.

Mavis completed her job on Earth and gained her wings on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 at the age of 97.

She was preceded in death by her parents, O.T. and Inez McIlwain; husband, James Paul Odom Sr.; son, Elbert Roye Odom; grandson, James Paul Odom III; sisters, Lorraine, Lurline and Dean; and brother, Roye McIlwain.

Mrs. Odom is survived by her son, Jimmy (Lois) Odom of Fairhope; daughter, Lynn (Frank) Reed of Gulf Shores; grandchildren, Amy (Chuck) Beshel of Fairhope, Trey (Monica) Ezell of Mobile, Frank (Lyle) Reed of Gulf Shores and Jill (Ryan) Manning, also of Gulf Shores; great-grandchildren, Alex, Christopher, Zach, Jessica, Karli, Bayli, Carson, Weston, Murray and Mae-Margaret; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Millry, Alabama.
