Multiple fatalities reported after plane crashes near Magnolia Springs

Additional information from the Navy

“In reference to the T-6B aircraft accident yesterday on Mansion Road, the Navy investigation team is asking anyone who may have video or photos of the aircraft in flight, or additional information, to call Lieutenant Freeman at (864) 608-0729. Additionally, if anyone sees what they think may be debris from the aircraft, they ask that you leave it undisturbed and call LT Freeman.”

Original post, Friday, Oct. 23:

Multiple fire units, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department, and the Baldwin County District Attorney are on the scene of a plane crash on Mansion Street in Foley, located near County Road 55 near Magnolia School. A home caught on fire as a result of the crash.

The District Attorney has confirmed there have been multiple fatalities as a result of the crash. While original reports believed the crashed plane to be a crop duster, that has now been confirmed false.

At 6 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office posted this tweet: “Update plane crash: The plane involved in the crash is going to be a US Naval aircraft. No civilians were injured on the ground. DOD and Navy personnel will be handling the investigation and will provide further updates.”

Earlier at 5 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office posted this tweet concerning the incident:

“Sheriff’s Office units and fire units are on scene in the area of Magnolia School in Magnolia Springs. An unk. type of plane has crashed. A home in the area is also on fire. Please avoid area if possible.”
