BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Investigators have arrested one woman and are looking for another they say tried to sneak drugs to an inmate at the Baldwin County Courthouse.
According to a release issued Tuesday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 6 a deputy assigned to the Judicial Protective Services Unit was conducting a routine security check of the Baldwin County Courthouse in Bay Minette when he located a bag containing Suboxone and Xanax tables, as well as methamphetamine.
Security cameras on the exterior of the courthouse captured two women placing the package near an entryway to the courthouse.
“The drugs were hidden near a door that is utilized by corrections deputies to move inmates in and out of the courthouse,” according to the release. “Our investigation revealed that the drugs were placed at this location so that a current inmate could retrieve them.”
One of the suspects, identified as 37-year-old Rebecca Ann Willis of Daphne, was located on Jan. 7 with the assistance of the Baldwin County Drug Task Force, according to the release, and arrested on an outstanding warrant for violating parole conditions.
She was interviewed about her role in the incident at the courthouse and subsequently charged with attempted distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Willis is also charged with tampering with physical evidence after investigators say she attempted to destroy evidence when they arrived at her residence.
A warrant for attempted distribution of a controlled substance has been issued for a second suspect, identified as 27-year-old Alexis Biron of Brewton. According to the release, Biron was last seen in Century, Florida, and may be in that area.
