Ron Muschel of Fairhope passed away after a brief illness. He was a 1966 graduate of McGill High School and a 1975 graduate of University of South Alabama.

In 1969 he enlisted in the United State Marine Corps and went through boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, basic training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Officer Candidates School at Quantico, Virginia, where he received his second lieutenant bars. He was a communications officer.

He was stationed for a year in Okinawa, Japan. He remained in active-duty USMC reserves for 22 years and retired as a full colonel.

After his tour of duty, he returned to Mobile to complete his degree at USA with a BS in accounting. He started his career as a comptroller at St. Regis Paper Co. This job took him and his family to Missouri.

Several years later he was promoted and transferred to New York City. During this time, he was chairman for the United Way Campaign, and also chairman for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.

He took early retirement from his position as assistant treasurer after 18 years of service with International Paper.

He stayed very active in his retirement years. He was a counselor and chairman for SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives). He belonged to the Ancient Aviators and Old Soldiers groups. He very much enjoyed the programs and lunches and time spent with friends.

Ron was a man of integrity. He would always do the "right thing" even when it wasn't the easy thing to do. He also expected this of those around him

He was an avid outdoors-man and hunter .Every year he looked forward to his trips to his hunting camp, "Camp Make-Do," in Missouri. As his retirement hobby job, he created a pine tree farm. He loved working the land, pampering his pet cow, Maggie, and being outside.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maureen Muschel; his children, Scott (Jody) Muschel, Eric (Michele)Muschel, Allison Muschel; four grandchildren, Josie, Tim, Amanda and Kevin; other relatives and special friends.

Memorial service will be held at Christ the King Church, 1505 Main St., Daphne, AL, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m.
