FOLEY, Ala. — Makayla Shoots signed to play basketball with Coastal Alabama Monroeville (formerly Alabama Southern) Community College on March 21. The Foley High senior led the Lions scoring with 433 points this season and finished her high school career with 930.

“I call her my rock,” said Foley head coach Sally Jeter. “She has been that for me and more. A great athlete and student and just happy to see her take all that and continue. Because she definitely has not peaked, yet. She is really developing into the complete player she can be in college. And she is very fast, but it’s her first step. That is what really sets her apart and that will really be a great advantage for her and coach Armstrong.”

Shoots will play for the Eagles’ head coach Mandee Armstrong who expects a boost in point production.

“I think she will come in and do a great job for us right away,” she said. “We are losing guards so we need her right away and having watched her play, I think she will fit right into my style of running.”

Shoots said she is excited about playing at the college level.

“I’m really looking forward to playing there. I like the style of play they use and I think I will feel at home there.”

She added a note of gratitude to Jeter as well.

“She is the one who got me where I am today. When I came up from middle school and found out she wanted me to play varsity right then, I cried. I was afraid I wasn’t ready and wouldn’t play. But she worked with me and taught me so much. I wouldn’t be here without her.”

Shoots went on to be a four-year starter as well as a four-year team captain. She plans to study athletic training/sports management in college.
