South Baldwin Chamber gives Gateway update

Posted

FOLEY - The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce held a Gateway Initiative Report Card Luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Foley Civic Center. The Gateway Initiative is a five-year initiative started by CEO/President of the Chamber, Donna Watts. The purpose is three-fold: to strengthen and grow the workforce, businesses, and career opportunities in our area; to improve the community in which we live and work; and to strengthen existing businesses and maintain their way of life. During the luncheon, representatives from the Chamber and Gateway Initiative spoke to the assembled room of sponsors and members about where the initiative has been and where it is going, as well as giving updates on each area of the tier.

“What sold me on the initiative was we can do this, and we can do it well,” said Tommy Lee, chairman of the initiative. “Baldwin County is the fastest growing county in Alabama, and we’re going to have to solve or begin solving problems such as shortages of employees and infrastructure today.”

To date, the Chamber has raised over $1.3 million for the five-year campaign, but there’s a lot more left to be done.

“We need your help, and if you’re not an investor, then I hope you’ll call us later,” said Watts. “We’ll come and sit with you and discuss this initiative. I’m going to make sure that we get this accomplished in those five years. If we don’t then I’ll have a good excuse, but that’s our aim, and I believe we’ll do it.”

Stay tuned during the following weeks as reports for each tier of the initiative are presented with further information.
